The Agentic Commerce Checklist: Is Your Shopify Store Ready for AI Shoppers?

Most "is your store AI-ready" content is vague encouragement. This is the opposite: a concrete checklist you can run against your own store today to find out where you stand, organized so you fix the things that matter most first.

Work through it in order. Each section builds on the one before it — there's no point enriching attributes if your product identity is broken.

Tier 1: Identity — can agents tell what your products are?

This is the foundation. If an agent can't confidently identify your product, nothing else matters.

  • [ ] Every product has a correct identifier. GTIN (UPC/EAN) where one exists, in Shopify's barcode field.
  • [ ] Every variant has its own identifier. Each size, color, and configuration is a distinct trade item.
  • [ ] Identifiers are valid, not fabricated. No invented or recycled GTINs — they get listings suppressed.
  • [ ] Genuine no-GTIN products use a proper exemption, not a made-up number.
  • [ ] Brand is filled in and consistent across the catalog.
  • [ ] Product category/type is accurate so agents know which bucket you're in.

If you fail here: you're likely being filtered out before you're even considered. Fix this first.

Tier 2: Completeness — can agents match you to real queries?

Agents match products to constraint-heavy questions ("waterproof carry-on under $200 that ships in two days"). Thin data can't answer those.

  • [ ] Core attributes are filled in: material, size, dimensions, color, weight.
  • [ ] Use-case attributes are present: what is this for, who is it for, when is it used.
  • [ ] Compatibility/fit data exists where relevant (fits what, works with what).
  • [ ] Attributes live in structured fields, not buried in description prose.
  • [ ] Attribute values are standardized ("navy," not "navy"/"navy blue"/"dark blue" scattered across products).

If you fail here: you're identifiable but losing the comparison. This is the enrichment gap, and it's usually where the most winnable ground is.

Tier 3: Structure — can agents parse your data unambiguously?

  • [ ] Product/Offer schema (JSON-LD) is present and valid — name, brand, SKU, GTIN, price, currency, availability, condition.
  • [ ] Your theme isn't breaking structured data (custom themes sometimes do — verify yours renders).
  • [ ] Titles describe the product, not just a brand name ("Waterproof Canvas Tote, 20L, Laptop Compartment" beats "The Classic Tote").
  • [ ] Descriptions use natural, conversational language that matches how shoppers actually ask.

If you fail here: the data exists but agents can't reliably extract meaning from it.

Tier 4: Accuracy — is your live data trustworthy?

  • [ ] Price is correct and current everywhere it appears.
  • [ ] Inventory/availability reflects reality on demand.
  • [ ] No vague stock language ("limited stock" with no number).
  • [ ] Feed updates push automatically, not on a manual cadence.

If you fail here: agents that check live data will drop you the moment they find a mismatch.

Tier 5: Consistency — does your data agree with itself?

  • [ ] Site, product feed, and marketplace listings all match on price, availability, and attributes.
  • [ ] One source of truth feeds every channel, rather than separately maintained copies.

If you fail here: inconsistency lowers an agent's trust in all your data, even the correct parts.

Tier 6: Transactability — can agents actually buy?

  • [ ] You understand which surfaces you're reachable on (Google's UCP surfaces, ChatGPT via ACP).
  • [ ] Shopify Payments / required payment setup is active and in good standing.
  • [ ] You've tested real queries against ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google AI Mode to see if and how you appear.
  • [ ] Post-purchase support has a plan — checkout integrations handle the transaction, not the follow-up questions.

If you fail here: you may be discoverable but not actually purchasable, or purchasable with a broken aftercare experience.

How to use this checklist

Score yourself by tier, not by individual box. A store that's perfect on Tiers 3–6 but failing Tier 1 is in worse shape than one that's solid on Tier 1 and patchy above it, because identity gates everything. Fix top-down.

Most stores discover the same pattern: identity is half-done, completeness is the big gap, and consistency quietly undermines the rest. That's normal — and it's a fixable, prioritizable list rather than a vague worry.

Where UCP Fluent fits

Running this checklist by hand across a full catalog is the hard part — and the part that doesn't scale. UCP Fluent automates the whole stack: generating clean, registration-ready identity (Tier 1), enriching attributes for agent comprehension (Tier 2), and validating that your catalog is actually readable and competitive (Tiers 3–5), built natively for Shopify.
